A processing statement summarizes transactions, fees, adjustments, and deposits for a statement period. Layouts differ by provider, so use the glossary and your agreement together.
Common statement areas
- Processing volume and transaction counts: Activity reported for the statement period. Check the dates and totals against your own records.
- Interchange and network assessments: Fees associated with card networks and card type. Amounts and categories can vary with transaction details.
- Provider charges: Charges set by your provider, which may appear as percentage rates, per-transaction amounts, or periodic fees.
- Adjustments and chargebacks: Reversals or disputes reflected in the statement. Check each item against your business records.
- Deposits and settlement: Net amounts and dates reported. Timing may differ from your sales date based on account terms, weekends, or holds.
Questions to ask
- Which charges are set by the card network and which are provider charges?
- What services or equipment correspond to each recurring fee?
- Are any adjustment, dispute, or compliance entries tied to a specific event?
- How does the statement reconcile to deposits in my bank account?
- Which details should I check in my agreement or ask the provider to explain?
